When the language is not just a detail!

There’s no better topic to start an English session than the importance of non-native language.
Cristina, the brilliant TM of the session, picked this theme to reflect and share which are the strengths and the improvable weaknesses of the meetings in a language we are not native in. Easy to imagine, many interesting suggestions came up: encouraging people to speak the language of the session during the whole night, improving the percentage of attendance, and creating the “language mentor” role, to mention just a few.

For instance, Sheila thinks non-native language sessions are extremely useful to improve her English. Actually, with her speech, and not just a standard speech but an icebreaker, she gave us the evidence that she does not need a long time to master her English and also her public speaking skills.
She drove us along her numerous experiences in foreign Countries and she revealed to us the important lessons of live she learned: if you don’t like your life, just change it because only you have the power; don’t be scared by the future and let the events flow; step out from your comfort zone.

After Sheila’s inspiring and emotional story, it was the time for Emilie to share with us the most important speech of her life: the start up pitch she will be presenting in July to a committee of investors.
Her goal is creating an online platform that connects patients looking for reliable medical information with other people, either professionals or patients, who already lived the same situation and can suggest how to deal with it.
The speech was really intense and honest, and it showed us the importance of concentrating a complex project in just few-minute explanation in order to boost its effectiveness.

Last but not least Paul, who delighted us with his moving interpretation of “The Great Dictator Speech” by Charlie Chaplin, which reminded us that only with tolerance and kindness the human genre could aim to live in peace.
After the prepared speeches, we moved to an even more important part of the night, the moment that can really help us in our learning process: the evaluations.
Koro, Isabel and Sean pointed out the positive aspects of each speech and then shared with us some advice to make them better.
But a TM session is not a TM session without the prompted speeches. And neither this time we have been disappointed.
Playing with the TM theme, Sandra, the Table Topics Master, decided to make us laugh with the misunderstandings that can happen whilst speaking a foreign language. From leaking pens to grandes pechos, the brave table topics interprets tried their best to solve embarrassing situations that, sometimes, turned into even worst.

Between big smiles and even tears of exhilaration we ended up our great night.
But not before a huge announcement: TM Summer Party is just around the corner! Save the date for next July the 1st and sign up the online spread sheet to officially join the most exciting beach party of Barcelona!

Stay tuned for more
