Summer Session

Our last session before the summer break was another fantastic one.
Sergeant at Arms Teresa energetically opened the session and put us all on the right foot. With humour and lots of personality, she smoothly transitioned and gave the word to Marion, our acting president. She welcomed our numerous guests and gave them the chance to say a few words. She informed us about some current issues and moved the session along to Javier, Toastmaster of the day. He then called upon a volunteer and Christian gave us a good laugh with a ten second, but effectively performed joke. Today’s technical team introduced themselves and briefly explained their role.

Toastmaster activist Cormac swore-in the new executive team. All of them swore to do their best and thereby lifted into their new position. Then all members promised to do their part and support their club.

President                               Marion Chevalier
VP Education                       Marisol Cifuentes
VP Membership                   Lucie Arnaudies
VP Public Relations             Judit Permanyer
Secretary                              Sonia Rosales
Treasurer                              Ruben Martinez-Fanals
Sergeant at Arms                 Teresa Rubinat
Immediate Past Pres.          Djanira Cortesao

Toastmaster Javier then introduced the first speaker and objective of the speech. Always highly anticipated we heard an ice breaker, ‘Mi puzzle’. Katya gave an impressive performance with her first, very personal speech to the club. Later her evaluator Marion gave her some feedback, telling her how good the speech was, leaving some room for improvement.

Again TM Javier introduced our second speaker of the evening Matthias. He accomplished his ‘Half-Competent-Toastmaster’ tonight by giving his 5th speech, ‘Hablar sin palabras’. You not only had to listen to it, you had to see him giving us a very visual treat. His evaluator Ana Villar congratulated him for his accomplishment and also gave him some point to become even better.

Javier then gave the floor to our 3rd speaker of the evening Ricardo, who brilliantly performed ‘L’amore ai due poli’. He used every inch of the stage, made us laugh with unusual props and entertained us quite well. His evaluator Ann Delgado articulated well the positive points of the speech with a few critical thoughts.

All three speeches we will remember for a long time because we heard and saw some extraordinary performances.

Turning to the Table Topics, Rebecca challenged us to speak off the cuff to practice the unprepared, spontaneous response to surprising situations. Thanks to the volunteers and even some guests, who took up this challenge.

Transitioning nicely to Ruben our general evaluator, we heard his thoughts about tonight’s meeting. Well said, he reminded us of some important things we can improve on. Concisely he mentioned specifics that will make our club more efficient, popular and more fun, thanks Ruben.

Giving the floor back to Marion, she honoured Katya and Matthias with a ribbon as a sign for their accomplishments, gave us some club information, thanked the audience, guests and speakers as well as all volunteers for their participation and wished us all a wonderful summer which was the word of the day.

Finally Teresa reinforced all the good feelings of the day and closed the session in her position as Sergeant at Arms.

What a great session and I hardly can wait until the 12th of September when the fun continues. Hope to see you all then. Auf Wiedersehen.
