SOM-HI TM: Una esfereïdora però dolça sessió de SOM-HI (per Ariadna Ribés)

El passat Dimarts 4 de Novembre vam tenir la sort de formar part de la sessió de Som-hi Toastmasters, a la recentment tronada seu, l’arquitectònicament sorprenent escola IPSI.

La Judit P. va obrir la sessió mostrant-nos les decoracions típiques del mes d’Octubre, tant Anglosaxones com Catalanes.

La Doriana B., magníficament disfressada de Bruixa, va iniciar el que no deixaria de ser una sessió amanida amb vocabulari divertidament esgarrifós.

En primer lloc, en Jordi M. ens va deixar embadalits com criatures amb el seu discurs “Atrapant la Bellesa”, una història de conte amb una moralitat (“moraleja”) magnífica; no ens perdem l’autèntica bellesa intentant capturar-la, gaudim-ne! Discurs que la Isabel V. va avaluar amb molta serenitat i amor.

En segon lloc, la Julia P. ens va meravellar amb el seu impressionant “l’Alquimista Murri”, sobre el metge suís conegut com a Paracels (comprensiblement, doncs ens costaria molt recordar el seu nom complet tan bé com la Julia!! Ni més ni menys que Theophrastus Philippus Aureolus Bombastus von Hohenheim!!) i que ens va encisar als que no l’havíem sentit fins ara fer un discurs en català. I va ser l’Aleix qui va haver d’empescar-se-les per trobar algun punt de millora! 

I l’últim discurs que ens oferí la Teresa R., amb el poema “La Pubilleta”, de Frederic Soler Pitarra, que per sorpresa de tots ens va saber recitar sense haver de consultar gairebé mai les notes. I com el seu avaluador Joan F. va dir, ens va saber conduir pels alts i baixos emocionals de la història que el poema explicava, tot i el que suposa interpretar -i no simplement recitar- tot un poema!

En Cormac W., com a presentador dels discursos improvisats, va venir armat amb una ampolla de vi dolç Moscatell, amb la que va ajudar a encetar cadascun dels temes als participants, que amb el roig a les galtes van defensar les expressions;

Ambrós A. va donar pas als informes dels tècnics de la sessió (Marina C., comptadora de falques, Blanca O., Gramàtica, i Jordi V. Guardià del temps) per finalment avaluar la fluïdesa i diversió amb que havia discorregut la sessió.

Finalment vam poder compartir entre tots el Moscatell i pastissets de tardor, abans d’acomiadar-nos fins a la propera sessió.

Toastmaster session of November 12th

Today was my 5^th Toastmasters session and it was great! It is incredible how each Toastmaster session, although having a pre-establish structure, is always unique and full of surprises.

The topic selected by Isabel Valdivieso,  Toastmaster of the day, was Athletics. It was a great idea for a topic since all TM members have something in common with   athletes, in the sense that we  invest time and effort in becoming confident speakers. As the athlete Jesse Owens once said: “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.”

Isabel had a great team in this session, with Hugo Perez controlling the time of the speeches, Enrique Sanjurjo counting all “ah” “eh” “iii”, and Sofia Lopez analyzing the grammar of the talks.

The first speaker of the night was Julia Ripoll who gave a talk entitled “Dreams that talk about me”. In her speech, Julia emphasized the idea that “dreams are what define us” and she described her own dreams in her Ice Breaker talk.  Julia dreams about happiness and changing the world! Dreams that she defines as “naive” but that actually are what the world needs right now! In order to achieve her goals Julia plans to study criminology, politics, and law. Once she finishes her studies she will apply for a job in the United Nations. Meanwhile she accomplishes all these dreams, she first wants to start helping local people in Barcelona like youth without a home.

Nacho Téllez (1^st evaluator) remarked Julia’s confidence in giving her first speech, the story-start of her speech, and the good use of voice changes she made in order to add meaning and interest to the message. He also suggested things to improve like controlling body movement during the speech, making the structure of the discourse different (from easy to difficult or chronological), and referring to the audience by their names.

Lukasz Zagroba was in charge of  the second speech of the night, entitled “Lessons learned”. Lukasz made us imagine that one day we go to work and our boss informs us that we have been fired. Lukasz went through this situation some time ago, and although he had a difficult time he also learned many life lessons like “change is good”, “minimize the risk”, “listen to feedback”, “you can’t not predict the future”, and “practice those activities you love”.

Magdalina Burghelea (2^nd evaluator) highlighted Lukasz capacity to make confident and relaxed speeches. Furthermore, she also remarked the originality of the topic and the great anecdote beginning of the speech. She suggested Lukazs to make more body postures changes during the talk (e.g. use poses to represent certain phrases of the speech like “up” and “down”) and to maintain the same passion in the voice throughout the speech.  

For the third speech of the night entitled “Swimming in the air!”, Beatriz Fernández Molina talked about the meaning of our dreams. In the first part of her speech, Beatriz reminded us the chaotic and illogical structure that a dream can have, e.g. dreaming about reading, your mom, Brad Pitt and being naked. But is it dreaming “subconscious waste” or does it have any function? Based on her bibliographic research, Beatriz talked about different author’s explanations about dreaming and how they might be connected to real life worries.

Ana Villa (3^rd evaluator) highlighted that Beatriz fulfilled all the objectives of her speech, specifically empathizing her capacity to stimulate all the senses (visual, auditory, olfactory, touch) through the speech and the way she engages the audience by making constant questions. As points to improve, she suggested Beatrice to reduce the use of power point slides and put the same passion and strength at the start and end of the speech.  

The last speech of the night was entitled “The road to Barcelona” and was given by Paul Conde. Paul grew up in Mexico and remembers that his first memory of Barcelona is watching the Olympics games with his family. Together with his mother, they imagined about travelling to different places in Europe. Paul’s profession led him to travel around the world and visit many of these places like Brazil, Madrid, Paris, and Barcelona. In his beautiful speech Paul talked about the difficulties of being far away from his family and the life lessons he learned from this brave process.

Rosa Gonzalez (4^th evaluator) highlighted Paul’s ability to empathize with the audience and generate mental images of the discourse. Furthermore, she congratulated Paul for being so brave in giving this very personal speech and also for establishing perfect connections of the events contained in the story.

We finished the session with some fun table topics, in charge of Jelena Vetockina, were volunteer speakers tried to convince the audience to practice “extreme ironing”, “wife carrying”, and “cheese rolling”.

English Session October 19th

So yes, let’s face It, It has been a very “unique” session.

Last Wednesday I had the chance to participate in my 5th Toastmasters session. My expectations were very high, but at some point I kind of knew what to expect. I know about the structure of the session, the timings, the roles, the content and rituals. But Toastmasters, as any other good and fun things in life, couldn’t surprise me more: all the sudden everything was turned upside down. Let me explain It: we had an unexpected guest from Hollywood (LA), lots of fun at the table topics and some chaos at some point, which resulted in a very fresh and dynamic session and also a speaker (Rose) that wasn’t evaluated since she was providing tips on how to evaluate others!

The evening started with Mariyana (our Toastmaster for the evening) introducing Marlene and her husband our guests from the US. They are in Barcelona for other matters but wanted to get a taste of how we do things around here.

Mariyana continued the session stressing the importance of the smile, which was the theme of the session. Also, interesting enough, the word of the day was Chuffed!

Mariyana introduced the Tech Roles and after that we went directly to our first speaker of the night: Rose Chong.

Rose Chong speech: Keynotes to become a good evaluator

• Rose is a very senior speaker; she looks very confident and secure. Rose makes eye contact and smiles
• Rose starts talking about her mentee, which gave her first speech last week, starting the speech with an "oh my god... why am I here, you are going to scrutiny myself..."
• The speaker points out that a good evaluator is one that evaluates to encourage the speaker, not to criticize for the sake of It.

• There are 3 pillars for a good evaluation
• Mindset
• Preparation
• Encourage.  Live demo

• Rose speaks about the importance of each role,  evaluator, audience, guest, speaker (most important)
• She empathize with the speaker, introducing some very funny remarks in her speach
• Preparation is the most important part for an evaluator. No last minutes are allowed. It’s very important to know the goal of your speaker, so you can evaluate upon those goals: what do you look in your speech?  Voice?  Body Lang?  Improve hand movement?.

 Skills desired for a good evaluator:

• A good evaluator can point out very specific themes. Provides the example of Florian Muek

• Rose recognizes that a bad evaluator make a big impact on the speaker… even discouraging the speaker to come back to a TM session.

• She recommends providing examples with every comment, so the speaker understands the content and the context.

Rose brings an Evaluation template. Areas to cover:

1. Picture the speech
2. Analyze the speech
3. Structure your Evaluation
4. Rate the body language
5. Summary

Lastly, Rose recommends providing encouraging feedback to the speaker for his/her good development.

Second speech: Henric Obegi, Graduation speech

• Henric starts heading the audience, asking for help and empathy: he will need to provide a graduation speech in few days and he needs to practice and the feedback.

• He makes an analogy based on claiming a mountain and getting on top by different ways; depending on the role, the character of each person, priorities, values and experience. Examples of R&D people (creative) vs finance folks or sales and marketing groups. Each group takes a different path and experiences the climbing in a different way.

• He makes a good hearted speech about what has been accomplished.

• Also, he brings some poetical expressions along but always very confident and natural
• The final message turns into looking at tomorrow, but living the today fully (proposing a good party)

Third speech: Thomas Ron Hold, Entrepreneurial

Thomas has a very positive attitude; he shares a natural smile that generates a nice atmosphere in the room.

• He starts speaking fluently about the subject of his speech.

• Early in the speech he shares a personal experience, which resulted in losing his former job. He makes jokes about It, being quite funny about the situation.

• He mentions that life is a roller coaster, with all the ups and downs, and everything is great but the way his bank statement looks like!
• He claims to be an entrepreneur, and seems to be proud of it

• He shares his story after his former job, being a consultant.  Explains the desperation of little activity on the very beginnings (no phone calls nor emails from customers)

• For Thomas, to create something new is what really drives him, not so much the income itself
• He explains that he gathers with other professionals, in a similar situation. They tell their stories, share their experiences, share challenges, meet people, help each other. They network and support each other. This generates a lot of satisfaction.
• Thomas looks very genuine and natural. I have the feeling that he is sharing his story with a group of friend.
• He recommends jumping into it. Get entrepreneurial, realize your dreams. Not be afraid of failing.
• He wrapped up saying that he might like to create a toastmasters club in an area where there is none.

Jelena, Evaluator of Henric

• Jelena remarks the opening and the engaging style of Henric.

• Rapidly she mentions 3 good things.
• Humor, which can be used more often.
• Confidence.
• Good content.

• As well as 3 things to improve
• Vocal variety (Jelena provides examples)
• Play more with pauses, provides examples... silence can be golden
• The take home message: provide more depth

Lidia, Evaluator of Thomas

• Lidia opens up highlighting the confidence and smiling  that Thomas showed
• Also she brings up the good body language and the good use of the ups and downs
• Lidia mentions that It was a good idea to use Thomas’ personal experience since it was inspirational and created connection with the audience
• Some aspects to improve: the way to come into the stage, be careful with the hands in the pocket
• Lidia wants more passion, more emotion in the speech
• As a final remark, she mentions that Thomas could do better at the opening and closure (call to action, more powerful)

Rose is back on stage

With Rose now back on stage, she now evaluates Jelena and Lidia as evaluators. Some key points she mentions:

• Jelena was encouraging towards Henric
• Rose provides examples of good Evaluator’s characteristics
• Finally Rose reminds the 3 steps for a good Evaluator: Mindset, preparation, encourage

Laia,  table topics.

• Laia explains with examples the importance of selling

• Participants need to sell a mysterious object. This object cannot be seen by participants, who can only touch the object they need to sell.
• The 3 speakers were very funny and good sellers. Audience laughed a lot.

MARLEN, General Evaluator

Marlene, the colorful lady from LA explains certain differences between her club and ours. She highly compliments the Evaluation templates facilitated by Rose, as well as her presentation. She explains that in her home club, they do table topics first, and they don't ask for volunteers, the person in charge just chooses the participants! Marlene recommends having the time keeping and Tech Roles always in front of the speaker… speaking of time keeping, at this point we are far from keeping the time set for the session, but Marlene keeps on providing examples of differences between the clubs. She constantly remarks that there is no better than the other… they are “just different”. Way beyond the time scheduled for the session, when we all thought that Marlene’s part was over… we were all mistaken! Mariyana points out to Marlene that she needs to give the word to the Tech Table since they need to evaluate the participants. After that, we all thought now It was over… everyone but Marlene!!! At this point she insists on having pictures with all of us and the brochures of her club back at home (the brochures were really important to her). In the middle of a kind of messy wrap up, Mariyana concludes the session for the day… in the middle of an intense photo shooting conducted by Mr. Marlene’s husband.

The evening comes to an end with some group pictures with Marlene (and her brochures), good wishes to her and of course, as the theme of the day required, lots of smiles around the room.

Sesión en Castellano – 22 de Octubre

El pasado Miércoles asistimos a mas una increíble sesión de Toastmasters.  Con el tema de fondo La Poesía y Retorica como palabra escogida, la sesión se desarrollo con belleza y encanto con una seleccione de poemas por la mano de Jelena, la Toastmaster de la noche.  

Cumpliendo la organización habitual,  el alineamiento de la programa fue exquisito. Los tres speakers  han ofrecido discursos muy distintos, ricos no solo por su diversidad temática como también por el recurso a técnicas variadas de comunicación creando momentos de interaccione, dinamismo y agitando emociones desde la risa a la reflexión seria.

Déjate Seducir por SIPIE, por Marcel, nos habló sobre los pilares que basan el proyecto educativo y formativo de la persona del siglo XXI, propuesta todavía en desarrollo, por el Seminario Internacional sobre Pedagogía y Espiritualidad Ignacianas (SIPEI). Nacho, nos ha hecho reflexionar sobre la  importancia y el impacto de los elogios, con el tema Más elogios y menos silencios, y Iñaki nos enseñó cómo se puede discursar sobre otra persona, en ocasiones especiales, señalando con humor y graciosidad sus características.   

En Table Topic Master, Madalina nos ha transportado para el escenario de un Festival International de Poesía a nivele Europeo. Con poemas divertidos, Madalina dio alas a la creatividad de los participantes que se hacían pasar por reconocidos poetas, defendiendo su merecido lugar como vencedores. ¡Hay que decir que todos salieran premiados, no solo por el buen desempeño pero sobre todo por aceitaren corajosamente el desafío de standing up and speak!

Los evaluadores y equipa técnica fueran fundamentales para el suceso de la sesión, por los habituales comentarios pertinentes y por la creatividad que han puesto en sus papeles, como que envueltos en lo espirito de la poesía. Ha sido una sesión  con grande envolvimiento, dinamismo, partilla y muy cerca de la perfeccione como lo destacó Doriana, el evaluador general.

Por fin, felicitamos y damos las bienvenidas al nuevo miembro del club. En su primero speech como Toastmaster,  ha dejado un importante mensaje para aquellos que ahora empiezan: ¡hay dos grupos de personas en Toastmasters, los que son corajosos y aceptan lo desafío y los otros! ¿Dónde te quedas?

La sesión del color

A pesar de la repentina indisponibilidad del Acting President previsto, Laia Arcones la substituye con total solvencia. La sesión empieza puntualmente y lo hace dando la bienvenida a los dos invitados a la sesión: Elena y Bernard, que nos comentan los motivos que los han llevado a visitar nuestro club.

Laia Arcones, transformada como brillante Toasmaster de la sesión, nos explica que el eje vertebrador de esta noche serán los colores y nos recuerda una famosa frase de Winston Churchill: “No puedo aparentar ser imparcial sobre los colores. Me regocijo con los brillantes y siento pena por los pobres marrones.” Los colores reflejan sentimientos y Laia nos invita a todos los asistentes a escoger y visualizar nuestro color a través de un adhesivo en forma de corazón cuyo color pudimos escoger. Una iniciativa que encandiló a todo el público asistente!!!

 
Antes de iniciar la presentación del equipo técnico, Ramon Matabosh nos deleita con uno de sus siempre sorprendentes chistes y una vez conseguida la sonrisa de los asistentes, se presenta al equipo técnico. Después de las primeras carcajadas, aparecen los matices cromáticos del equipo técnico: Andras Babi, azules turquesas, contador de tiempo; Cristina Diez, gramática de la sesión,  propone la palabra “tornasol”;  Hugo Pérez, naranja, contador de muletillas.

 
Nuestro primer orador, Miquel Cazaña, como artista que es, no se define por un color, sino que es la combinación de muchos lo que le identifica. Su cuarto discurso “Un camino que amar” nos hace reflexionar sobre la voluntad interior de ser uno mismo, en la importancia de invertir en aquello que uno cree, en tener fe en nuestro talento y nuestro trabajo. Nos convence de que la vida te protege si amas realmente lo que estás haciendo.

 
Nuestro segundo orador, Paul Conde, azul, interviene con “La muerte y yo”, discurso sexto del Manual Competente. El discurso empieza con el poema “Espero curarme de ti” del poeta mejicano Jaime Sabines, hipnotizando al público con su invitación a hablar y a ser. 

 
Compensando los dos discursos de gran calado emocional, nuestro tercer orador, David Sagrista, azul, nos ofreció un discurso humorístico titulado “Qué pasa con las corbatas?”, con el que disfrutamos, entre risa y risa, reflexionando sobre temas tan dispares como el collar del perro o la vida de la lagartija. Qué difícil es hacer reír y  qué fácil que lo hace David!!!

 
Finalizados los discursos, aparecieron en escena los implacables evaluadores Joan Fabregat, Nacho Téllez y Lukasz Zagroba, con evaluaciones que demuestraron su saber hacer y su capacidad de acompañar y ayudar a mejorar a los evaluados… sólo faltó la música de Ennio Morricone del western el Bueno, el malo y el feo.

 
A continuación apareció en escena Catalina Maldonado, azul mar, con los discursos improvisados. Catalina pintó, como artista experimentada, un escenario donde tres osados profesionales del color tuvieron que demostrar sus dotes de improvisación y convicción. Y allí estuvieron Felipe, Sofía y Joan Marc con intervenciones llenas de colorido.

 
Fue entonces turno de la evaluadora general, color rojo, la pasional Jelena Vetockina, que sacó el pincel para colorear algunas propuestas de mejora, después de hacer intervenir el siempre atento equipo técnico, felicitando a todos los intervinientes por su ajuste al tiempo, poco uso de muletillas, y buen uso de la gramática. En relación a la palabra “tornasol”, destacar su gran éxito, al ser utilizada por siete distintos intervinientes, tres de los cuales (Paul, Catalina y Felipe) la utilizaron más de una vez.

 
Acabó la sesión, puntual y de manera magistral, presentándose dos nuevos miembros: Sofia Lopes y Gustavo Loewe. Felicidades y esperamos muy pronto que nos deleiten con sus primeras intervenciones.

Ritmo (Barcelona Toastmasters 8-oct-2014)

La sesión de hoy en Toastmasters fue una noche con mucho "Ritmo".

Como directora de orquesta tuvimos a la guapísima Rayane, controlando cada uno de los elementos virtuosamente, inicio dando la bienvenida y haciendo la introducción a la presentación de los invitados 6 de ellos que vienen por primera vez, y otros tantos como yo que llevamos 3 o 4 sesiones, diría que fue otra característica notable de la reunión, los numerosos invitados, que interpreto como una muestra del éxito del club.

Posteriormente se presento a cada uno de los miembros de la orquesta, en el cronometro Olga Pucurull cuidando que ninguno de nuestros artistas estuviera fuera de tiempo y danzara al ritmo de la música, Cristina Diez atenta a las estrofas de los soneros contando las muletillas, el importante rol de la gramática estuvo a cargo de Julia Ripoll, enriqueciendo nuestro vocabulario sugiriendo el uso de la palabra "Zafio" en las letras de las piezas interpretadas durante la noche y a cargo de la bitácora su servidor Hugo Pérez haciendo mi mejor esfuerzo :D

Para iniciar la velada de forma alegre, Joan Marc nos contó un chiste donde el buen Jaimito hace uso de todos sus recursos para cumplir con sus deberes en clase.

Porque también hay baladas tristes pero hermosas y de profunda reflexión, Doriana Bagnoli nos interpreto "Ultratumba", una pieza donde Doriana nos relata cosas muy personales, una reflexión acerca de su muerte y la auto-percepción vista desde diferentes personajes importantes en su vida, como son: su hermana, su mejor amiga y su hijo menor, nos lleva en un relato desde una muerte vacía y triste hasta una muerte colorida, con bellos recuerdos, compartida con gente amada y satisfecha de haber disfrutado una vida feliz, influyendo positivamente en la gente a su alrededor. Bravo Doriana!! en lo personal me parece un tema difícil que ademas fue interpretado magistralmente.

Después desde Lituania tuvimos a Jelena Vetockina, esta sonera, nos trae un tema donde nos habla de los miedos y como ellos pueden alejarnos de nuestros sueños, Jelena tiene identificados al saboteador que siempre tiene un pretexto para no hacer las cosas y al capitán que es la mejor versión de nosotros mismos, que siempre nos impulsa a cumplir con nuestras metas, en una historia alegre y divertida Jelena nos relata como conquistar los miedos nos empodera en sus propias palabras el coro dice así "Mis miedos los he convertido en mi victoria". Enhorabuena Jelena!!, que sigan los éxitos.

Como sabemos en Toastmasters somos un publico exigente y conocedor, como primer evaluador tuvimos a Ramón quien con referencias musicales, (propias de un experto) nos explica que fue lo que mas le ha gustado de la actuación de Doriana, animándola a continuar con esas excelentes composiciones y enfatizar las pausas, sobre todo en momentos clave como la mención por primera vez de "su muerte".

Para evaluar la actuación de Jelena tuvimos a Isabel Valdivieso, con la alegría que la caracteriza la felicito por su excelente actuación y le dio algunas sugerencias para tener mayor control en el volumen de su voz.

Para la sección de improvisación Madalina contrato a varios profesores de baile que nos mostraron como ejecutar diversos pasos de salsa cubana, así aprendimos como decir que no y a matar la cucaracha.

Teresa Rubinat como evaluadora general de la sesion solicito a los integrantes su reporte, Olga nos indico que todos los artistas cumplieron adecuadamente su tiempo en escena, Cristina hizo notar que la muletilla del día fue "eeeeehhhhhh" notándose la influencia del cantante de salsa Victor Manuelle (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%ADctor_Manuelle) en los asistentes y Julia nos indico cuales fueron sus frases favoritas y resalto quienes acertadamente habían hecho uso de la palabra "Zafio".

Tras una integra revisión Teresa realizo observaciones para mejorar la sesión, agradeció la participación de todos los asistentes y cedió la palabra a nuestra directora de orquesta.

La bella Rayane consulto a los invitados que iban por primera vez cual había sido su impresión, siendo todo favorable y gratos comentarios, esperamos que sigan asistiendo a las reuniones.

Así puntualmente termino el concierto, habiendo disfrutado de una reflexiva y motivadora sesión musical.

WE ARE PRESIDENT'S DISTINGUISHED CLUB!

Yesterday evening we enjoyed our first meeting in Barcelona Toastmaster, after summer holidays.

And we had the chance to welcome quite a number of guests! They were eleven! Wanda, a Polish woman, admitted her addiction to TM, as she came to visit us during her 1-week-holiday in Barcelona. ;-)

Our toastmaster of the day, Christian Clottu, made us think about the importance of decisions in life: “Decision shapes Future”, he said, and told us about his difficult decision of leaving Toastmasters , now that he has accomplished his goals as a speaker. Good luck with your next challenge, Christian; you are always welcome in BCN TM!

Was it all about “leaving”? Our timekeeper, Joan Marc García has left his entrepreneurship project; Rayane, ah-counter, told us about her decision of leaving Belgium in order to come back to Spain; Iñaki, table topic master, has left his job… For sure, when we leave something, when we close a door, a new window is opened for us :-)

Ambros Abellana inspired us with a speech about adaptation to the environment… and frogs… An experiment showed how a frog would die in its effort to adapt itself to changes in temperature… And Ambros then advised us to be adaptable but, in the process, never to forget our dreams.

Catalina Maldonado is a very responsible VPE, who will always have a good advice for improvement as a public speaker, even when delivering her speeches :-); with the inspiration of Antonio Machado, she gave us this thought: “Communicator, there is no style… The style is made by talking”.

Both speakers received the feed-back of proficient evaluators, David Ramírez and Lidia Plaza.

One of the reasons for my attending Toastmasters meetings is that I feel so inspired and moved when a good speaker is at stage.  And both David and Lidia are!

Table Topics, guided by Iñaki, were all about decisions… Our guests Andras, Rosa and Julia were all very brave and volunteered to participate and improvise a speech.

Andras admitted that he has been feeling a coward during his summer holidays, because he didn’t dare to stand up and participate in our last meeting in July, even though he wanted to… And he has decided not to feel back that way never again! Well done Andras!

Julia also mustered courage to act as a table topic; she was sitting next to me, and I know she had this inner conflict “I want to do it, but I do not dare… Do I rise my hand?...” And she did it! Congratulations, Julia, and welcome to BCN TM :)

Sweet Rosa enjoys public speaking, and she delivered a natural, fluent and very well presented table topic!

Our president Mariyana Tasheva was the general evaluator, and reminded us about not coming into the room until we hear an applause.

In her role of President, she informed us of the forthcoming contests: Club Contest on the 17th, Area Contest on October 4th. Participation is still welcome!

UN NOU CLUB QUE COMENÇA, 

“SOM-HI TOASTMASTERS"!!

Aquest Dimarts 9 de Setembre vam tenir ocasió d’acudir a la sessió inaugural i dempostrativa del que serà el nou club bilingüe Català-Anglès “Som-hi Toastmasters”.

Una sessió que només començar ja era plena de símbols d’identitat catalana, i que va inaugurar el Sergent d’Armes [Sergeant at Arms] Dani R., seguit de la càlida benvinguda que ens va oferir Cormac W., Governador de Divisió [Division Governor].

Judit Permanyer, impulsora principal de la iniciativa d’aquest nou club, fou la Toastmaster de la sessió [si, sí, no hi ha traducció possible!]. Un cop determinat qui seria el Blogaire [Blogger, aquesta era fàcil oi?] de la sessió, i havent rigut molt amb l’acudit de l'Ambrós A., es van introduir els papers de Cronometrador [Time-Keeper], Comptador de Falques [Ah-Counter] i Gramàtic [Grammarian], que no sense abans explicar-nos la seva tradició catalana preferida, van exercir respectivament Julia P., Nuria C. i Joan F. La paraula del dia, que caldria incorporar als discursos va ser “gaudir” [enjoy].

Així, el primer discurs ens el va oferir Aleix S.: “Quelcom que aprendre dels viatges”, que amb una posada en escena que convidava a viatjar, va saber transmetre un missatge sorprenentment sincer -no li importem a ningú- del qual en va treure un motiu d’inspiració; el que a la vida diària serien bojeries, en un viatge esdevenen anècdotes, i és així com hem de ser: autèntics, i com quan viatjem, no hi ha cap motiu per deixar de ser la persona que volem!

Amb un rerefons de temàtica castellera que la Judit P. anava configurant, com si entre tots anéssim construïnt un castell humà, vam sentir el discurs “Sant Sadurní” que la sadurninenca Isabel V. ens va oferir. Un cop explicada la tràgica història de Saturninus -mentre vèiem la imatge d’un acolorit vitrall-, i introduïda la tradició cavística [sí, del cava!], ens va mostrar el seu recorregut al llarg de les diferents poblacions arreu de catalunya que sorprenenment s’anomenen “Sant Sadurní de …”. Tot un paisatge i tradició catalanes que caldrà visitar!

Al final de la sessió, cal dir-ho, va fer gala d’un deliciós cava edició especial, d’un color blavós degut als ingredients afruitats!!

Tot seguit, Doriana B. ens va delir a tots amb el seu increiblement energètic “Relat Ortogràfic: Quan dos són multitud”, en què personificava el signe d’exclamació, la coma, el punt i el signe d’interrogació com si fos el més fàcil del món! Una interpretació que ens va fer riure molt, tot seguint les històries i “relacions tòxiques” d’aquests signes de puntuació.

Teresa R. ens va deixar clavats a les cadires i amb el sentiment a flor de pell. Amb un inici cantant una estrofa amb la melodia de Mi cajita de musica de Mercedes Sosa, començava “Records”.  Vam recórrer les tradicions catalanes -Les rotllanes de sardanes, la pasqua florida, les mones, la festa major, els crits de les gralles i els castells cimentats amb humans- deixant que els records de la seva caixeta parléssin per si mateixos. I és que no hi ha res com "entendre, respectar i estimar els records dels altres”, ja que els records són sentiments, i els “sentiments uneixen”.

Després d’haquets quatre discursos, com quatre pisos d’un castell humà, calien els pilars, l’estructura que fa de guia per a tot discurs, les avaluacions.

Jordi V., Sebastià B., Álvaro S. i Ana V. respectivament, van avaluar els fantàstics discursos, havent-se d’esforçar per trobar punts de millora!!! 

I per fi el Mestre Cormac W., qui ens va introduir a la secció de Discursos Improvitzats amb la seva divertida història en què intentava explicar la tradició del “Tió” a les seves germanes Irlandeses. 

Així, improvitzant-ho al moment, i tot intentant explicar-ho a una família irlandesa, Ambrós A. va argumentar la il·lusió de les criatures en preparar el Tió, Ariadna R. va intentar transmetre l’esperit d’equip que es necessita per construir un castell humà, i Jordi V. va defensar les raons per fer servir oli d’oliva per cuinar, enlloc de la tradicional mantega que caracteritza la cuina britànica i irlandesa.

Finalment, M.A.G, com a Avaluador General, després de demanar els resultats als Cronometrador, Comptador de Falques i Gramàtic, i de reconèixer l’esforç i entusiasme dels participants, va concloure la sessió amb un fragment molt ben trobat, del poema Llengua Materna de Marià Aguiló 

"Cap nació pot dir-se pobra si per les lletres reneix; poble que sa llengua cobra se recobra a si mateix".

I com mana la tradició, vam reunir-nos en un bar a fer unes begudes tot comentant l’èxit dels discursos.
